Georgia gymnast wows judges

July 21, 2010

For Georgian Lani DeMello, a Special Olympics athelete for six years, rhythmic gymnastics is a passion. The only level four competitor at the games, she blew the judges away with her performance and will compete in the finals.

The gymnasts perform with hoops, clubs, ribbons, ropes and a ball. The events test their flexibility, balance, strength, agility and hand-eye coordination. When asked what her favorite event was, Lani said, “I like everything!”

Rhythmic gymnastics is held in the Coliseum on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
