Roddick inspires Special Olympics athletes

Tennis pro Andy Roddick volunteered his time to the 2010 Special Olympic USA National Games Sunday, July 18, by putting on a demonstration at Abbott Sports Complex.

The demonstration began with Roddick and the athletes completing drills on the courts, followed by three, five-minute tennis matches with former tennis pro Dillon Walker and three sets of athletes.

Match one was Roddick and Simon Caldwell, 23, Mo., against Walker and Brent Eriks, 39, Chicago. Walker and Eriks won, 7-2.

The second match included Roddick and Katherine Richards, 21, Texas, against Krista Genter, 30, Altoona, Pa. Roddick and Richards won, 7-2.

The third match included Roddick and James Reiter, 46, Toledo, Ohio, against Walker and William Harris, 41, Duxbury, Mass. Roddick and Reiter won, 5-4.

Roddick signed autographs for athletes and volunteers after demonstrating his tennis skills with Walker.
