On March 2, the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee held a public hearing on Sen. Charlie Janssen’s Illegal Immigration Enforcement Act, commonly known as LB48.

Of 15 people testifying, nine were opposed to LB48 and six supported it.

a dozen of proponents and opponenets testify during three hour long hearing.

Proponents and opponents of the bill also expressed concerns.

Sen. Janssen doubts Nebraska Legislature committee will pass his illegal immigration bill.

Nebraskans react to LB48 introduced in the Nebraska Legislature.

In June 2010, an ordinance passed in Fremont, Neb., aimed at preventing illegal immigration. Within six months, a bill modeled after Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration law was introduced into the state legislature.

More than 300 people showed up for a rally to oppose LB48, which would place additional restrictions on illegal immigrants.
